LARGE THANGKA ABOUT THE BARDO INTERMEDIATE STAGES IN THE NYINGMAPA-TRADITION.

Colors and gold on fabric; mounting with silk fabric. This thangka shows numerous figures and five mandala about intermediate stages (bardo). The central mandala with Chakrasamvara in yabyum with his entourage. The upper mandala shows the green Tara; the left one Vajrasattva; the right one presumably Yama and left Vajrayogini; each with entourage. On both sides the graveyards; in the upper corners Tibetan dragons. At the upper frame in the center Sambathabadra; placing this thangka in the tradition of the Nyingmapa school. The two white skinned figures below are persumably Manjushrimitra und Garabdorje (correlating with the Dzogchen tradition). Followed by Buddha Shakayamuni in dharmachakra mudr? To the sides of the central mandala; right: The blue skinned Buddha Vajradara; left: Buddha Shakyamuni in bumhisparsa mudr? below him the white Tara. On the right side the Eight Buddhist Treasures and some of the Seven Tibetan Treasures. The back of the thangka with an inscription (om ah hung). With frame: 246x150cm; picture: 155x120cm.
