A thangka in the tradition of the Gelugpa school. Pigments and gold on fine fabric. Painting in East Tibetan tradition. Narokach鰉a is a form of Vajrayogini and believed to be the manifestation of the moment of enlightenment assigned to all Buddhas. Standing in front of a flaming aureole she is wearing a collier of fifty human skulls and holding a hacking knife in her right hand. She is drinking blood from a kapala bowl and over her left shoulder she balances a kathvanga stick. Atop of her Vajrasattva with two Gelugpa Lama to his sides. At his right prob. Jampel Gyatso (1758-1804); the 8th Dalai Lama with the green Tara under him. At the left prob. Gend黱 Drubpa (1391-1474); the 5th Dalai Lama; under him Manjushri. At the base central the guardian Panjaranatha (tib. G鰊po Gur); "the one with the tent pole"; to the right the Citipati; "the Gentlemen of the graveyards" (tib. Durt?Dagpo) and to the left Karma Dakini with a sword dangling from her arm. With consecrating inscriptions on the back. 63 x 41cm. Condition A/B. Supplement: Framed with glass.
