BIG SITTING HARE. BRONZE.
Japan. Meiji-period (1868-1912). 19th c.

Bronze with dark brown; silvery patina. The stylized hare is sitting cross-legged with his fore-paws crossed on his left knee. He is looking up to the right. Narrow-waisted with a pronounced breast and long swinging ears the animal is meant to cartoon human women shapes. A masterpiece of an unknown artist. Due to it's size it is probably a model meant to attract possible costumers. Height 54cm. Condition A/B.
