Only very few landscapists of the 19th century were able to capture the atmosphere of the French riverscapes in such a subtle way as Paul D閟ir?Trouillebert. He adds an autonomous element to the perception of the great Camille Corot; who paved the way. Trouillebert's style shows vibrant brushstrokes; muted silvery-grey and green shades and generally his paintings have a contemplative aura.

The river is floating sluggishly and under the very old willows with their shimmering leaves there is a sitting angler. The bridge suggests a nearby town. Besides the depiction of nature it is Trouillebert's distinguished art to express the accord of the human with nature; tranquility and harmony in his painting.Art trade; Van Ham.
