In 1915 the Prussian general Ewald von Lochow (1855-1942) ordered a painting from Arthur Kampf which should document his successful battles in January 1915 near Soissons for which he received the medal pour le m閞ite from Wilhelm II. The further course of the war stopped the execution of the paintings. Only the present study that Kampf himself mentions in his records has been preserved in the artist's estate.Art trade; Van Ham.
