Ammonite (possibly Arietitidae) fossil found in the UK dating from the Sinemurian age (190 million years) of the Lower Jurassic period. This fossil measures 50cm in diameter. Ammonites are extinct marine animals which lived between 380 and 65 million years ago. They are distantly related to the modern-day nautilus. They lived in coastal waters and inland seas. The animal lived in the last chamber of its coiled shell. Collection Jean-Philippe et Francois-Xavier Blouet, paleontologists.
