Serpula sp. polychaete worms encrusted on the surface of a bone.They build a protective sheath of limestone on hard substrates, such as rocks. Serpulid tube worms are also commonly found on the shells of mussels. The presence of serpulid tube worms on this bone proves that it remained on the seabed for some time before being covered with sediment.
