John James Audubon (1785-1851), American ornithologist and artist. Audubon is best known for his book Birds of America, published between 1827-1838. The book contained 435 life-size illustrations of the birdlife of North America produced by Audobon on his travels around the country. Painting is by an unidentified artist and is a copy of John Woodhouse Audubon.
