STANDING GANESHA.
Northern central India. 10th c.
Buff sandstone. Standing in elegant contrapposto between two columns. He wears a thin hip cloth and his legs; arms and head are adorned with strings of pearls. With his hands he holds a bowl of candy; a lotus and a weapon. His fourth hand; which was opened for blessing the people; is missing today and behind is leaning his ax. At his feet the rat is shown; which is regarded as his mount (vahana). Height 40.5 cm. Condition A/B.
