UEMURA; SH訩?
1902 - 2001. Bank in May (Suien gogatsu). Japan. Dated to 1 August 1963. As a gift to celebrate the founding of the Bayer AG hundred years ago. Colors and gold leaf on paper. 80 x 115cm.
The illustration shows a pair of Japanese kogamo ducks (Eurasian teal; Anas crecca) beside blooming irises in the typical manner of the painter.
Uemura worked in the tradition of the Maruyama Shijo school. In the painting he cited in a modern way the famous screen with irises of Ogata K魊in. Sign.: Sh鬹? Seal: Shin. Framed behind glass; with passe-partout. Condition A.Art trade; Van Ham.
