Myanmar/Burma; probably from Mandalay. Late 19th c.

Bamboo and lathed wood. Relief in thayo lacquer with residue of former gilding. With glass inlays (hman zi wei cha sh); partly in cut shapes. The decoration on the outside is masterfully designed with singha lions and fighters in medallions; surrounded by flower borders. Today; the gold is almost completely worn away; a beautiful contrast to the parts lacquerd bright red and the inlaid glass. Height 71cm; ?38cm. Conditon A/B.
