NETSUKE: MIGHTY TIGER.
Japan. Edo Period. 18th c.

Ivory; well carved; the striped fur very finely engraved with dark patination. The eyes are inlaid in light horn with dark pupils. The mighty animal lies with head slightly stretched; while its long tail is swished over its back. W.5.8cm. Sign.: Tomotada. Condition C. One front leg and the tip of the tail were long ago broken off and replaced already in Japan.
