NETSUKE: SARUMAWASHI WITH BAMBOO-STICK AND LITTLE MONKEY.
Japan. Edo Period. Early 19th century.

Ivory; finely carved and very delicately engraved; darkly stained; beautiful; gold-yellowish-brownish patina. The monkey juggler is standing in beltd garment; above he is wearing a sleeveless jacket; richly decorated with lotus blossoms. His curious looking monkey is sitting on a padded shawl. H.7;8cm. Sign.: Yoshinaga; cf. LA p. 1239-1241. Condition A/B.
