NETSUKE: RAIDEN ON A CLOUD WITH DRUM.
Japan. Edo period. 1st half of the 19th century.

Kurogaki and ivory. Looking out from a strong oval cloud; completely covered in strong swirls; is the three-dimensional figure of the sitting Raiden; god of thunder; dressed in a tiger apron with cords in his hands moving six drums; delicately carved from ivory; which emerge from the clouds. Sign.: K魕魋ai and Toshichika on two oval reserves; unidentified artist. H.5;6cm. Condition A/B. Supplement: Ojime. Thunder drum; corpus wood; "covering" ivory; drum buckles horn. Himotoshi bordered in green colored ivory.
