NETSUKE: SITTING RAT.
Japan. Edo period. Early 19th century.
Ivory; very delicately carved; engraved; and darkly stained. Large inlaid eyes made of dark glass. Beautiful; partly golden-yellow patina. Rat; turning its head with the big cheeks back; the fore-paws lying on the tail wrapped around the body. W.3.7cm. Condition A.
