GUANYIN WITH PARROT.
China. Ming Dynasty; Jiajing period. Dated 1538.
Bronze with dark patina and residue of gilding. Crowned; dressed in elaborate breast-jewelry and ribbons; sitting on a double lotus. Both hands in dharmachakra mudra.
On the back of the base a longer inscription: Jiajing shiqi nian san yu ji ri zao (At a
good day in the third month in the 19th year of the Jiajing period); Shanxi tia yuan fu wen shui xian ming... (province of Shanxi; possibly by order of Wangshi..). Height 19.5cm. Condition B.
