Tibet. In the style of the 17th c.; but later.
Bronze with fire-gilding; inlaid stones and pigments. The separately cast base with a buffalo kneeling on a corpse might be originally closed.
Yama is the personification of death; but is although punishing bad deeds. He is the counterpart to Manjusri and looks like his wrathful emanation Yamantaka. At the same time he is a powerful protector of the Buddhist doctrine (Dharmapala). Weight 1094g; height 18cm; width 12.1cm; depth 6.6cm. Condition A/B.
