AMITAYUS.
Tibet. 17th/18th c.
Bronze; finely engraved; with fire gilding and pigments. Sitting on a lotus base in dhyanasana and holding his hands in meditation posture. The antaravasaka cloth draped in soft folds around his legs. He wears a long cloth at the shoulders; flowing in two large loops around his arms; over the hips and ending in two tails over the front of the base. Crowned with a five-partite crown; the upper body; wrist and feet adorned with strings of pearls.
The broad; distinctive shoulders as a counterpart to the narrow waist are characteristic
for the Sinotibetan style of that time. The finely engraved hem border also refers to Chinese influences. Height 17.3cm. Condition A/B.
