His provenance research dates as far back as 1881; when it changed hands at an auction sale of the collection of Baron E. De Beurnonville in Paris. From the art dealer Van Diemen & Co.; Amsterdam/Berlin; through the collection Singer in Vienna; it eventually entering its current collection.Art trade; Van Ham.
