TALL CENSER.
China. 19th c.

Dark green jadeite; partly translucent with dark brown inclusions and whitish calcifications. Semi-spherical; rather thin-walled bowl with handles in the shape of lion heads with tendrils and a loose ring. The high and heavy foot separately worked with an open work central part with four eyelets with loose rings. The lid although a thin-walled bowl in open work with tendrils and four medallions with four-footed animals: horse; gazelle; Quilin and another mythological animal. The separately worked knob in the shape of a dragon with four eyelets with loose rings.

Characteristic for this type of large incense burners from jadeite of the 19th c. are the motifs cited from historic Chinese iconography. The calcifications confers the censer an antique atmosphere. Height 42;5cm. Condition A/B.
