Spain; Andalusia; city of Seville; cathedral of Saint Mary of the See (Seville Cathedral): detail of burial tomb (sarcophagus) of Cristopher Columbus (Cristoforo Colombo; 1451 - 1506); built 1902; Near cathedral door Puerta de la Lonja; the memorial sarcophagus of Cristopher Columbus was installed; in 1902. The sarcophagus is carried by four heralds who represent the four kingdoms of Castile; Leon; Aragon; and Navarre. The heralds with the coat of arms of Castile and Leon look upwards; while Aragon and Navarre carriers look down to the ground. This is most probably; for the last two kingdoms only in 1778 could enter the colonial trade. DNA tests of 2006 may have proofed the identity of the relics of Columbus; buried here.
