The Singing Man. 1928. Bronze; brass-coloured patina. 49 x 56 x 40.5cm. Signed (cut) verso on the foot support: EBARLACH. Foundry mark next to it: H. NOACK BERLIN.
Presumably one of 38 unnumbered bronze casts after 1938. The plaster model for this cast was made by Barlach in 1928 (cat. rais. Laur; cat. rais. no. 431). The artist sketched the figure of the singer in the (charcoal) drawings "Singender Mann"; 1912; "Entwurf f黵 einen Kamin";1915; and "Singender Mann im Rund"; 1918; (cat. rais. Laur/Wittboldt; Teil 1; cat. rais. nos. 1189; 1369; and 1588).
