The lithograph is linked to the homonymous oil painting of 1924 (cat. rais. Pirsig-Marshall/von L黷tichau (2019); cat. rais. no. G1924/01 (85); unknown whereabouts).

Our coloured lithograph was not released as part of the edition of 10 signed and numbered (?) copies and the approximately 12 preliminaries of this edition; which were published by the press of the Ferdinand M鰈ler Gallery; Berlin.
The lithograph; which is illustrated in the catalogue raisonn?of the prints under the cat. rais. no. 137; exhibits a difference in the right margin area of the print: While the black area over the hand shows an almost uniform density of colour in our sheet; in the cat. rais. it appears streaky and light below; above more compact and darker. This difference might be the result of a later correction to the stone.
