The Dogon settle as field workers in the Savanna on the East of the Niger- inland delta
along a massif; the Bandiagara Escarpment. They are skilled in transforming objects of
every day life as these millet mashers into small art objects; whereby the simple;
geometric ornamentation contributes to the completion and the enrichment of the whole. The
beauty of the masher; which is used by the Dogon-women every day with ability and
perseverance; underlines the status of the owner.
Art trade; Van Ham.
