Italy; Tuscany; city of Montepulciano: Chiesa di San Biagio (San Biagio Church) built 1518 - 1545 according to plans of Antonio da Sangallo The Elder (Antonio da Sangallo Il Vecchio; 1453 - 1534). The design for this masterpiece of Antonio da Sangallo the Elder was realized most probably from 1516; onwards. Start of the construction was in 1518. Works lasted at least until 1545. The church with Greek cross plan may have a model in city of Prato: the church Santa Maria delle Carceri; built by his brother Giuliano da Sangallo. Also Filippo Brunelleschi used this plan for some projects; as well Bramante and Michelangelo Buonarotti for St. Peter in Rome.
