Workers from the city and the charity Caritas sweep up the coins that tourists cast into the Trevi fountain in Rome; Italy. Each year an estimated 800 000 Euros are thrown into the Trevi fountain ;2-3000 euros each day. A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain; they are ensured a return to Rome and a wish fulfilled. A dozen bags of coins ;weighing as much as 10 kilos each ;are usually retrieved during a 24-hour span at the fountain With this treasure the charity has opened a low-cost supermarket for those in need.
