Estonia; Ida-Viru County; city of Narva: Vice Directors`House of Kreenholm Manufactory; now home for artists in residence of Estonian Academy of Arts; This building for the vice director (technical director) of Kreenholm Manufactory was built; in 1896. It now is in ownership of the Narva Gate 諹; a branch of the earlier Swedish owner Boras W鋐er (since 1995); which declared bancrupt; in 2010. Production at textiles producing Kreenholm Manufactory stopped; in 2007; and finaklly; in 2012. The area on the 13 ha big Narva river island of Kreenholm (Craws Island; Craws Islet; German: Kr鋒nholm; Kr鋒eninsel; Swedish: Krenholm); is abondoned; today. A first saw mill was installed here; in 14th century. In 1538; the Livonian Order (Teutonic Order) buitl a first water mill. A first textile factory was installed; in 1823; as well a flax mill. Since 17th century; the island belonged to Joala Manor (German: Gut Joala; Estonian: Joala Mois). Later on; several water mills worked on Kreenholm; which is sourrounded by the two Narva river water falls; and on the islands around. In 1856; Ludwig Knoop (1821 - 1894); born in German city of Bremen and since 1877 Baron Ludwig Knoop; bought the island and started in 1857; the Kreenholm Manufactory.(Estonian: Kreenholm Manufaktuur). Partners of this Narva Kreenholm Cotton Products Mill Pirvate Limited Company were Ernst Kolbe from Saint Petersburg; Kosma Soldatenkov and Aleksei Hludov from Moscow; and British Richard Barlow. The manufactory extended enormously. After having had 4500 employees; in the 1870s; in 1911; more than 10;000 people worked here in this textile tycoon buisness along the Narva Falls. As well; on the adjactant area of Joaoru (Falls Valley) were built directors` houses; workers` barracks and; in 1906; a first hospital; in styles of historism; Neo-Renaisssance; and Neo-Gothic style.
