Estonia; Ida-Viru County; city of Narva: German Military Cemetery for those killed in World War II; constructed 1997 - 1999; A first German military cemetery for some 4;000 fallen soldiers was constructed; on this place; in 1943. After the war; the cemetery was levelled to the ground. In 1995; t he place could be re-identified. Until 1999; the German military cemetery was built for around 15;000 fallen soldiers. Also foreign soldiers who fought with the German Wehrmacht and died in Estonia or died in a war prison camp; are buried; here. Until 2008; a total of 10;758 bodies has been moved from other places; to this cemetery. There are also memorials for the 4;000 soldiers; just buried here; in 1943. Central symbol of the military cemetery is a 4;50 m high Cross of natural stone from where people may enjoy a unique view on river Narva which is as well the border between Estonia; and Russia.
