English and American works; probably American case: Tall Case Clock; English and American works; probably American case; c. 1890-1910; Wood and brass; The clock's mechanical works were made in England; most likely in the late 1800s; and its oak case produced in the U.S. The face includes a smaller dial for seconds; and three keyholes for winding. At its far right; a lever offers three options for the chimes: "Westminster / St. Michaels / Whittington." This is set to Whittington; the tune of the bells at St. Mary-le-Bow in London. In the corners; winged figures wrought in brass refer to the ancient belief that angelic beings governed the movements of heaven and earth and; accordingly; time as well.; Overall: 93 x 27 5/8 x 17 1/2 in. (236.2 x 70.2 x 44.5 cm)
