Lijiang, Yunnan China - 27 October 2006; no people in view. Overlooking the historic city of Lijiang in Yunnan, SW China, is this stunning snow-capped peak of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Its highest summit, seen here at sunrise, is named Shanzidou and is 5,596 m (18,360 ft) above sea level. The entire mountain range was shrouded in thick cloud for a week whilst we explored Lijiang; only very early on the day we departed did we catch a tantalising glimpse of the summit!
