Conceptual illustration of the Artemis I mission showing a view of Earth from the Moon. The Artemis I mission is an uncrewed test flight that will circle the Moon and return back to Earth using an Orion capsule, launched on a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. The Artemis I mission will spend around three weeks in space, orbiting both the Earth and Moon, covering a distance of 450,000 kilometres away from Earth. This is longer and further than any spacecraft designed to carry humans has flown before. Artemis I is scheduled for launch on the 29th of August 2022. The Artemis program aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon by 2024.
