Crowds Jeer At Convict Gang - In a busy London Street children were playing yesterday around the feet of prisoners from one of Britain's toughest jails. Clad in blue prison garb, and watched over by uniformed warders, the men were repairing the outside wall of Pentonville jail - where earlier this year the mass murderer Christie was hanged. Saturday morning shoppers stepped around the men and their children played nearby, two small children, a girl and boy, ran up to the prisoners and shouted something to them. One of the prisoners smiled, the other scowled. October 04, 1953. (Photo by Paul Popper).
