H.M. The Queen Pays Evening Visit to Bombed Sites in London Area - Mr. J. Childs of the Heavy Rescue Squad stumbles over the rubble, while conducting The Queen along the narrow path through the allotments. The Queen paid a visit to a model farm - in the middle of blitzed East London. Six bombed sites in Bethnal Green have been turned into allotments or livestock farms by more than 400 civilian workers. When told that every inch of the soil had been claimed from underneath 4ft. of rubble, The Queen said "It's amazing what hard working people can do." June 17, 1943. (Photo by Pix Photos Ltd.).
