Queen Approves New Badge For Wales: The new augmented version of the Royal Badge for Wales approved by the Queen at a meeting of the Privy Council today. It is the existing red dragon badge appointed as a Royal Badge for Wales over 150 years ago - but it has been augmented by enclosing it in a scroll carrying the words 'Yddraig Goch Ddyhy Cychwyn in green lettering on a white background and surmounting it with a Royal Crown. The words are a motto derived from a Cywydd, a Welsh poem of the fifteenth century in its original form. It has been in use throughout the Principality for a long time and may be translated as 'The red dragon gives impetus'. March 11, 1953. (Photo by Reuterphoto).
