Great New War Picture -- Mr. Longstaff with the painting. Mr. William Longstaff, the Australian official war artist, whose ghostly symbolical painting to commemorate the opening of the Menin Gate is familiar to thousands, ***** just completed another large canvas. Mr. Longstaff has again a striking symbolical idea. He calls it "Handing on the Torch." On the low sandy coast-line of Northern France, a party of ghostly "Tommies" in helmeted war-kit are turning backwards to look towards England. It is beautiful picture extraordianarily well painted. September 16, 1931. (Photo by Central News)
