Paris Pays Tribute To Ike General Eisenhower standing in an open car with General Koenig acknowledges the cheers of the crowd as they pass a reminder of Nazi occupation. At a ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe yesterday June 14, General De Gaulle decorated General Eisenhower with the companion of liberation. Parisians lined the streets of the capital giving the general a thunderous welcome. After pinning the decoration on Ike's Tunic Gen. De Gaulle kissed the allied leader on both cheeks after the ceremony General Eisenhower drove down the Champs Elysees acknowledging the cheers of the crowd. July 2, 1945.
