"Naval Prize" - "Prize Pair" at left, Cadet B.K. Whitecross, of South Africa, winner of the king's Telescope, compares prizes with Cadet R.M. Cumming, who holds the king's gold medal for the best Australian cadet, after the prize-giving ceremony aboard H.M.S. Devonshire. It was a proud day for the Naval Cadets of H.M.S. Devonshire, the sea-going training ship at Devonport, when the First Sea Lord, Admiral sir John H.D. Cunningham, officiated at the ship. Colonial and dominion cadets figured highly in the prize listing, with Cadet B.K. Whitecross winning the King's Telescope for the best all-round cadet and Cadet R.M. Cumming, winning the King's gold medal for the best Australian Cadet. April 13, 1948.
