Navy Divers Plunge Into Frigid Thames. Navy divers splashing into the Thames at Lambeth, London, today. Another man clambers out of the water. Doing one of London's least inviting jobs this freezing day (Thursday) are a team of Royal Navy divers now working in the Thames. They are engaged in training exercises (first in the Thames by Navy divers) which will continue over the next few months. The divers, based on HMS Annet, an anti-submarine and mine sweeping trawler, operate from specially fitted and motor cutters. January 28, 1954. (Photo by Reuterphoto).
