Endurance Test in the Arctic - An Endurance test being made by air crews deep in the Arctic waters. The man seen jumping, is testing out his endurance in case he should need to make a forced landing in the Arctic. The man in the water (right), is floating in a survival suit. At (left) is a five-man dinghy, and (centre), a one-man dinghy. The endurance test was carried out by air crew members of the air craft carrier Eagle from which the picture was made. After cruising off the East Coast of Greenland, well within the Arctic Circle, with the mercury well below freezing point and for most of the time in complete darkness, ships of the Home Fleet returned yesterday December 1 to their home ports after the cruise.
