Former 'Companion' of Hitler De-Nazified: Dr. Ernst Sedgwick Hanfstaengl, former chief of the foreign press department in Germany, who was classified by a de-nazification court at Weilheim as "entlasted (relieved). Connected with Hitler since 1923, he was the Fuehrer's personal companion since 1930 - contacting him with foreign news correspondents, but later fell into disfavour because of his frank disclosures of Hitler's 'intentions.' Following an attempt to murder him he escaped to Switzerland and later to London. As an internee after Dunkirk he was taken to Canada, afterwards being returned to Germany. January 16, 1949.
