City Sword Presented To The Queen At Temple Bar - Traditional ceremony at Temple Bar, where the Queen enters the City at Fleet Street from the Strand. The Lore Mayor, Sir Noel Vansittart Bowater, offers her the pearl sword, which the Queen touches. The sword is said to have been presented to the City by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571. In an open state London and with a Sovereign's escort of the Household Cavalry, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh drove from Buckingham Palace to the Mansion House in the City of London today (Wednesday) to attend a luncheon given by the Lord Mayor, Sir Noel Vansittart Bowater, and the Corporation of London.
