Tanks Storm Beach In Mock Invasion -- "Enemy" forces coming ashore from landing craft at Portsmouth. "Enemy" forces were invading the south of England this morning in Runaground 111 - the biggest combined operation amphibious exercise since the war. The Glorious Gloucesters were there, tough Royal Marine Commandos and Hussars, boarding the landing-craft with their Centurion, Sherman, and Churchill tanks. There was even a helicopter taking part in a beach-landing for the first time. Watching the operation was Viscount Alexander, Defence Minister, and the Army's Chief of Imperial General Staff, Field-Marshal Sir William Slim. May 07, 1952.
