United States Crowns New Tennis Champions : For years, Victor Seixas and Doris Hart, outstanding U.S. tennis players, have striven to attain the ambition of their lives - the tennis championship of the United States. In early September 1954, their dreams were finally realised at the Forest Hills, New York, courts. Seixas defeated Australia's Rex Hartwig and Miss Hart defeated Louis Brough of the United States. Seixas makes a nice backhand return to Hartwig in the first set of the finals at Forest Hills. Seixas, who many U.S. tennis experts thought had passed his peak as a player, won the finals, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4. February 04, 1955. (Photo by United States Information Center).
