An important sidelight on early oil history. On October 11, 1882, one of the most productive wells in early American oil history produced its first "gusher". It was the biggest gusher the oil country knew at that time. The first day it produced over 5,000 barrels, 7,000 for several days after and for a month it poured out a sea of oil. $100,000 was refused for the well. October 20, 1953.
