Bapper R. Hurst, of Toronto, tries ***** hand with " The Serpent", one of the ancient musical instruments, belonging to the Dolmetsch Family, at Haslemere, Surrey. The "Serpent" a musical ancestor of the bass tuber. The ***** low note, and was much used in churches ***** about 100 years ago, where it supplemented the bass ***** in the chair. The sound from this instrument ***** hardly distinguishable from the human voice, and was not noticeable as an instrument when played with the chair. August 11, 1943. (Photo by Fox Photos).
