American Precision Bombing destroys Italian Bridge These three photos illustrate graphically the result of precision bombing by an American plane in Italy. The picture at the left was taken before the bombing of the San Dona Dia Piave railroad bridge in northern Italy, a short distance form Venice. In the center photo bomb bursts are exploding on the span. The photo at the right shows the destroyed bridge, with only a shattered mass of steel left to remind the enemy that here was once a vital link in his hard-pressed transportation system. The bomb crators on both sides of the approaches testify to the explosive power of the individual bombs. December 11, 1944. (Photo by U.S. Office of War Information Picture).
