First Drawbridge Built In Far East - The recently completed Kachidoki Drawbridge connects Tokyo's downtown river front with the 190-acre reclaimed island of Tsukishima at the mouth of the Sumida River. Built in three spans, of which the central section comprises the draw of the drawbridge, it is 246 meters long, 25 meters wide, and cost the Tokyo Municplity 4,500,000 yen. January 1, 1940.
