The Queen at Australia house, Strand, London, inspected mobile canteens and other vehicles given by the New South Wales (Australia) canteen fund to the Women's Voluntary Services for work in Bombed areas. The Vehicles were formally handed over to Lady reading, President of The W.V.S. by the Australian High Commissioner, (Mr. S.M. Bruce). In response to a letter sent to New South Wales suggesting that money might be raised for one canteen, ?24,4000 was raised which, instead of one canteen enabled a formidable fleet of 100 vehicles to be sent, including 21 mobile canteens and other essential vehicles.
