The King and Queen at "Hellfire Corner". The Queen conversing with Mrs. Swell, one of a group of N.F.S. women who so bravely performed their duties during the Dover Shelling. In the Scarred streets of "liberated" Dover and Folkestone, the Kind and Queen to-day received a great welcome. The small waiting-room of Kearsney station, just outside Dover, was the starting-point of their tour. There they met 36 Civil Defence leaders, including five mayors and Ganger S.G. Sparkes, Southern Railway. In Dover their Majesties inspected the cave shelters, saw where the damage had been greatest. October 18, 1944.
