Opening Ball Opens Playing Field -- The Duke of Edinburgh to-day opened a new recreation ground at Combe, Oxon, by bowling the first tow opening balls at a cricket match played between a representative county eleven and the Combe Village team. The National playing Fields Association, of which the Duke is president, has contributed largely to the cost of the ground. From the expression on the opening bats man's face and his eager will be heading boundary wards - the Duke of Edinburgh bowling the first of the two opening balls at Combe to-day. July 19, 1949.
